Therapeutic Process: What to Expect
Embarking on a neurofeedback journey is a collaborative and personalized experience. Here’s an overview of how the process works:
1. Initial Consultation
- Understanding Your Needs: We start with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, challenges, and goals. This helps me gain a clear picture of your current situation and what you hope to achieve.
- Assessment: Depending on your readiness, we may explore your life history and current state to identify the root causes of your symptoms.
- Setting Goals: Together, we define your therapy goals, which will guide the training plan.
2. Finding Your Optimal Response Frequency (ORF)
- Personalized Training: The first step in the actual training is to find your Optimal Response Frequency (ORF). This is the frequency at which your nervous system responds most effectively to the feedback.
- Real-Time Adjustments: During the session, I will stop the training every few minutes to check in with you and adjust the frequency based on your responses.
3. The Training Process
- Relaxed Observation: Your role during the training is simple – just observe. There’s no need to strive or consciously change anything. The goal is to notice how your body and mind respond.
- Therapist Guidance: I will closely monitor your EEG data as well as your physical and emotional reactions, making adjustments as needed to ensure the best results.
4. Between Sessions
- Self-Reflection: After each session, take some time to check in with yourself. Notice changes in your sleep, mood, focus, or overall well-being.
- Strongest Effects: The most noticeable effects often occur within the first two days after a session.
5. Duration and Progress
- Typical Course: A standard course consists of 20 sessions, as research shows that this leads to stable and lasting changes.
- Individualized Approach: Depending on your symptoms and progress, fewer or additional sessions may be needed. Most clients see significant improvements after 10 sessions.
- Final Phase: Once you’ve reached a well-regulated state, I often recommend one or two Alpha-Theta sessions to solidify the progress and conclude the therapy.
6. Ongoing Support
- Holistic Approach: My goal is to help you achieve not just short-term relief but long-term balance and resilience.
- Open Communication: Throughout the process, I’m here to answer your questions, address concerns, and celebrate your progress.
